È la favola scritta dal novelliere Guido Quarzo e interpretata dall’artista come una sorta di “libro aperto” alla percezione di tutti, piccoli e grandi, con parole scandite lettera per lettera in cui racconta come Luì il Matto riuscì a ritrovare i Bambini perduti nel Bosco Silenzioso. Impostosi nel panorama artistico torinese all’inizio degli anni ’70, è tra i più significativi rappresentanti della scultura contemporanea post-concettuale. Fin dagli esordi ha realizzato sculture in materiali naturali (terracotta, gesso, legno, pietra lavica) e fusioni di bronzo. Dice “(…) è sempre il materiale che mi suggestiona, la vita dei materiali”.

?? Luì and the Art of Going Down to the Woods is the fable written by the novelist Guido Quarzo. The artist interprets the fable as a sort of “open book”, understandable by everyone, from young to old people. He tells word by word how Luì the Lunatic succeeded in finding the children lost in the Silent Woods. At the beginning of the 70’s, Mainolfi entered the artistic scene of Turin, and nowadays he is one of the most representative artists of Contemporary Sculpture within the Post-Conceptualism. Since his earliest stage, he has been sculpting using natural materials (earthenware, plaster, wood, and lava stone), as well as melted bronze. He says, “(…) it is always the material that inspires me, the life of the materials”.
